Create a custom Session Player pattern in Logic Pro for iPad
You can create custom patterns for the Keyboard Player, Bass Player, and Drummer to follow. You create a pattern by turning steps in a row on and off in Manual view in the Session Player Editor. When editing the Keyboard Player and Bass Player, a single row is available. When editing a Drummer, multiple rows are available for different kit pieces.
Each step in a row represents a sixteenth note, meaning a row of sixteen steps equals one musical bar. You can increase the length of a custom pattern and define the length in bars or steps.
Create a custom pattern
In the Logic Pro Session Player Editor, tap the Manual button to switch to Manual view.
Tap a step to activate the pattern.
Tap steps to turn them on and off.
Creating a custom pattern turns on the pattern. You can turn it off by choosing a predefined pattern again in the Patterns dialog.
Mute or unmute a kit piece for the Drummer
In Manual view in the Logic Pro Session Player Editor, tap the kit piece icon at the beginning of a row so that it’s selected (unmuted) or dimmed (muted).
Change the length of a custom pattern
In Manual view in the Logic Pro Session Player Editor, choose a bar or step value from the Length pop-up menu.
When the pattern length is more than 16 steps, it’s divided into sections called pages, with each page showing a part of the pattern. An overview of each page appears above the first row. You can tap the page overviews to switch between the different parts.
Copy and paste the steps from one page to another
In Manual view in the Logic Pro Session Player Editor, tap the page you want to copy in the page overview, located above the first row of steps.
Tap the More button , then choose Copy Page.
Select the destination page above the first row of steps, tap the More button again, then choose Paste Page.
Copy and paste a custom pattern
In Manual view in the Logic Pro Session Player Editor, tap the More button , then choose Copy Pattern.
Select the destination Session Player region, then, in the Session Player Editor for that region, tap the More button again, then choose Paste Pattern.
Clear a custom pattern
In Manual view in the Logic Pro Session Player Editor, tap the More button , then choose Reset.
