About progress in Schoolwork
As a teacher, to get the most out of Schoolwork, make sure your school’s IT administrator enables the Student Progress feature in Apple School Manager. When your school enables the Student Progress feature, you can view the progress your students are making on activities you send to your class. You’ll be able to check how students are progressing on an app activity both individually and compared to the rest of the class.
If your school enables the Student Progress feature in Apple School Manager and students complete activities you sent in an assignment, all available progress data is shared with you. The progress-reporting app automatically sends information as they complete the activity in the app (for example, time spent on the activity, the percentage completed, quiz scores, hints used, or points earned). The data available depends on the type of activity, and is defined by the app developer. For document and link activities, Schoolwork automatically sends information (time spent) as you complete the activity. At a minimum, every activity that supports progress reporting sends time spent data.
When reviewing progress data, you can see:
Class progress: The class view displays how students are progressing with the assignments in the selected class.
Assignment progress: The assignment details view displays how students are progressing with the activities in the selected assignment.
Student progress: The student progress view displays how a selected student is progressing with all activities across all assignments in a class. To see how the selected student is doing on a specific assignment, tap View Assignment.
Progress data doesn’t appear instantaneously. Schoolwork takes time to process data before displaying it in the class view, assignment details view, and student progress view.
If necessary, your school’s IT administrator can disable reporting of student progress for an entire organization or for individual students. If reporting of student progress is disabled for an entire organization, the administrator can choose to pause reporting or delete all previously reported data for all students. If reporting of student progress is disabled for an individual student, all previously reported data is automatically deleted and is no longer accessible.
For privacy reasons, teachers can see student progress only on the activities sent for a class they teach, and students only have access to their own progress data. In addition to the Student Progress feature, your school’s IT administrator can enable the Improving Schoolwork feature in Apple School Manager. If enabled, Apple can process non-personally identifying Schoolwork data using techniques such as machine learning to improve the app. For example, Apple may process Schoolwork data to understand trends in usage, customize user experience, and develop new education features for the app. To ensure transparency, teachers and students will see a notification the first time they open Schoolwork using their Managed Apple ID after Improving Schoolwork is enabled.
