Listen and respond to messages with AirPods
Use your AirPods 2, 3, or 4 (both models), AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max to listen to messages from your iPhone or iPad. When your device is locked and your AirPods are connected to it, you can use Siri to read the message when it arrives.
Turn on Announce Messages
On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Notifications > Messages, then turn on Announce Notifications.
You can also choose what kinds of notifications you want announced.
Note: To turn on Announce Messages, you must first turn on Announce Notifications in Settings > Notifications.
Reply to a message
After using Siri to read a message, say something like “Reply that’s great news.”
Your message is repeated, and you’re asked for confirmation before it’s sent.
Reply without waiting for confirmation
For apps where you can send a reply, like the Messages app , Siri repeats what you said, then asks for confirmation before sending your reply. You can choose to send replies without waiting for confirmation.
iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Notifications > Announce Notifications, then turn on Reply Without Confirmation.
Apple Watch: Go to Settings > Siri > Announce Notifications, then turn on Reply Without Confirmation.
Stop using Siri to read a message
