Use High Performance screen sharing
High Performance screen sharing allows for advanced color workflows and improved responsiveness.
High Performance screen sharing supports stereo audio, HDR video reference mode, 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, and high frame rates (30 or 60 fps).
Turn on High Performance screen sharing
When controlling or observing using a supported Apple Silicon Mac and client Mac, you can enable High Performance screen sharing.
In Remote Desktop , select a computer list in the sidebar of the main window, select a computer, then choose Interact > Control or Interact > Observe.
If the computer supports High Performance screen sharing, you see the Select Screen Sharing Type pane and can choose High Performance.
To edit the chosen Screen Sharing Type later, select the computer, choose File > Get Info, Control & Observe, then select the desired Screen Sharing Type at the bottom.
Requirements and limitations for High Performance
Keep the following in mind when using High Performance screen sharing:
When using High Performance screen sharing, you want your network to have a high bandwidth and consistent low network latency. For a single 4K display, the recommended bandwidth is 75 megabits per second.
Wired network connections are recommended.
Both Mac computers must be Apple silicon and macOS Sonoma 14 or later
Both Mac computers must be able to communicate with each other over UDP ports 5900, 5901, and 5902.
Only one High Performance screen sharing session can be active on each Mac at a time.
The maximum screen size supported on a virtual display is 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels or 1920 x 1080 HiDPI).
To support HDR video reference mode, you must choose the HDR Video (P3-ST 2084) preset in Displays settings. See Use the Preset menu in Displays settings on your Mac.
If you authenticate using the name of the user logged in to the target Mac, the hardware displays connected to that Mac are blanked to give you privacy. This also means no one can use that Mac while you’re using High Performance screen sharing.
