Changes to accessing your music library with DJ software and other third-party apps

The new Apple Music app in macOS Catalina focuses on a single way for third-party apps to access your music library. At this time, not every third-party app developer has adopted these changes.

If you previously used the XML library export, the XML file will remain in your upgraded library after you update to macOS Catalina. However, the file will no longer update with new music or playlists that you add or edit in your library.

If you're using a third-party app and can’t access your music library as expected, try the following:

  • Check the app to see if there's an update.
  • Check the settings in the third-party app for a new way to link your music library.
  • Try to drag and drop songs from your music library into the app’s library.
  • You can use the app on a Mac with macOS Mojave or PC with iTunes for Windows until the app developer releases an update for macOS Catalina.
