
Send your friend a sketch, tap, or heartbeat
Before you begin, pair your Apple Watch and iPhone. Digital Touch uses the phone number associated with your iPhone to contact your friends. Up to 12 of your favorite contacts automatically appear in Friends on your Apple Watch, and you can manage your friends from the Watch app on your iPhone.
Send a Digital Touch:
- Press the side button on your Apple Watch to see your friends.
- Select someone using the Digital Crown.
- Tap their initials or picture, then tap
. You'll only see
if your friend has an Apple Watch. If your friend recently paired their Apple Watch, you might need to wait an hour or more before you can send them a Digital Touch.
Send a sketch

Draw on the screen. Tap
to change the color, then start drawing again. Stop drawing to send.
Send a tap

Tap the screen once or repeatedly. Tap
to change the color. Stop tapping to send.
Send your heartbeat

Place two fingers on the display until you see and feel your heartbeat. Lift to send.


See a Digital Touch
To see a Digital Touch from your friend, tap the notification on your Apple Watch. To dismiss a Digital Touch, press the Digital Crown.
To see a Digital Touch that you dismissed, go to your notifications or friend and tap
. You won't see the Digital Touch in Messages on your iPhone or your Apple Watch.


Add a friend
Use these steps to add a friend from your Apple Watch:
- Press the side button to see your Friends.
- Rotate the Digital Crown to
, then tap
. - Rotate the Digital Crown to locate the contact you want to add as a Friend, then tap to choose. If your friend isn’t in the list, open the Contacts app on your iPhone and add your friend to your contacts. Then try again.
You can also add and remove friends or organize them into groups from the Watch app on your iPhone. Open the Watch app, tap the My Watch tab, then tap Friends.
