Use iMessage and FaceTime in Apple deployments
iMessage and FaceTime are services from Apple that allow text, audio, and video messages to be shared with other users.
iMessage
iMessage is a messaging service for iPhone and iPad devices, Mac computers, and Apple Watch that enables one-to-one or group chats, with messages that can include attachments such as photos, contacts, and locations. Messages appear on all of these devices where a user is signed in. iMessage uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and end-to-end encryption with keys known only to the sending and receiving. Apple can’t decrypt messages, and messages aren’t logged. Using the cellular connection on an iPhone or iPad with cellular service, normal carrier data rates may apply. Messages may be sent as SMS when iMessage is unavailable; carrier messaging fees apply.
FaceTime
FaceTime is the Apple video and audio calling service. FaceTime calls use the APNs to establish a connection and then uses Internet Connectivity Establishment (ICE) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to create an encrypted stream. Users can communicate between any mix of iPhone, iPad, and Mac using FaceTime.
Note: FaceTime and iMessage may not be available in all countries or regions and may be disabled when used with a Managed Apple ID from Apple School Manager.
