Draw and sketch in a Freeform board on Mac
You can draw, annotate, or handwrite directly in your Freeform board using the drawing tools or a pen tool. You can also use your iPhone or iPad to add a new sketch directly into a board.
Add and edit a drawing
Go to the Freeform app
on your Mac.
Do one of the following:
Click
in the toolbar.
Choose Insert > Drawing.
Start drawing, or do any of the following:
Select a tool: Click
in the tools menu at the bottom of the window, then choose a tool such as Fountain Pen or Watercolor.
Change a tool’s size: Choose the tool in the tools menu, then choose a nib size at the top of the menu. For the Reed tool, you can also choose an angle.
Change a tool’s color or opacity: Click
, then choose a color. To adjust the opacity of your strokes or the fill, click Show Colors, then adjust the slider.
Select and edit your drawing: Click
, then click a stroke or drag around strokes to select them. Drag to move the selected strokes, or Control-click for more options such as Duplicate, Merge, and Separate.
Tip: Choose Snap to Shapes to smooth or straighten hand-drawn lines.
Fill an area with color: Click
Remove strokes from a drawing: Click
Recolor strokes: Click
. (The button appears near the selection, and its color changes to reflect the stroke’s current color.)
Resize a drawing: Click
Draw a vector shape with a pen tool
Go to the Freeform app
Click
, then click Draw with Pen.
Click to draw straight lines. Drag to add curves.
Do any of the following:
Convert a point to a sharp corner, smooth curve, or Bézier control: Control-click a point or midpoint, then choose an option.
Tip: To toggle a point between straight and curved, double-click it.
Divide a line and add a new point: Control-click a point or midpoint, then choose Divide Path.
Close a shape: Click the first point.
Leave a shape open: Press Return.
To change the border thickness, color, and more, select the shape or line, then use the formatting tools. See Add and format shapes, lines, and arrows.
Add a new sketch using your iPhone or iPad
Note: You must turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® on the iPhone or iPad you want to use and sign in to the same Apple Account. The iPhone or iPad must also meet system requirements. See the Apple Support article Continuity features and requirements for Apple devices.
Go to the Freeform app
Click
, then choose Add Sketch.
A simple drawing app opens on your iPhone or iPad.
Note: If two or more of your devices are nearby, you can choose which one opens the drawing app.
Draw a sketch using your finger. On iPad, you can also use Apple Pencil.
When you’re finished, tap Done.
On your Mac, the sketch appears on your board.
Select the sketch to do any of the following:
Replace the sketch: Click
, choose Replace, then select an option.
Focus on the subject of the sketch: Sketches automatically have transparent backgrounds, but you can remove extra strokes. Click
Crop the sketch: Click
, drag the slider or the edges, then click Done.
