Insert and convert characters using a Japanese input source on Mac
After you set up a Japanese input source, you can enter and convert characters between other characters by moving the insertion point.
On your Mac, switch to a Japanese input source.
In an app, place the insertion point where you want to make the change.
For example, to change “庭に花が咲いている” (niwani hanaga saiteiru) to “庭に赤い花が咲いている” (niwani akai hanaga saiteiru), place the insertion point between “に” and “花” by using the mouse or the arrow keys.
Type the characters you want to insert.
For example, enter “あかい” (akai).
To perform the conversion, press the Space bar.
Tip: You may not need to press the Space bar when you use Live Conversion.
To confirm the conversion, press the Return key.
