Stereo and spatial video editing workflow in Final Cut Pro for Mac
In Final Cut Pro, you can import, edit, and export stereo video, including spatial video that you can view on Apple Vision Pro. You edit stereo and spatial video the same way, but spatial video has additional metadata that creates special viewing experiences on Apple Vision Pro. Spatial metadata is added during recording or when the video is exported.
Step 1: Record stereo video
You can record spatial video with Apple Vision Pro or with iPhone 15 Pro or later and iOS 17.2 or later. You can also record generic stereo video (without spatial metadata) and use it to create spatial video for viewing on Apple Vision Pro.
Step 2: Import stereo video
When you import stereo video into Final Cut Pro, make sure the media has the correct metadata settings. You can import spatial video as well as other kinds of stereo video.
Step 3: Create a stereo video project
To take full advantage of the stereo video capabilities of Final Cut Pro, you need to create a project whose video format is set to Spatial/Stereo 3D.
Step 4: Preview stereo video clips
In Final Cut Pro, you can show the views for the left and right eyes simultaneously. These special preview options allow you to objectively assess the parallax and alignment of stereo video scenes.
Step 5: Adjust stereo video properties
You can edit your entire project without thinking about stereo video properties. But at some point, you need to fine-tune the convergence point from shot to shot.
See Adjust stereo video properties in Final Cut Pro for Mac.
Step 6: Edit a stereo video project
You can add titles, effects, 360° video, or monoscopic video to your stereo video projects.
Step 7: Share stereo or spatial video
You can use the built-in Apple Vision Pro share destination to export a spatial video file suitable for viewing on Apple Vision Pro. You can also export a generic stereo video file that you can view on Apple Vision Pro and other devices.
