Remove an Xsan SAN in macOS Server
Follow these steps to take a SAN out of service and remove its metadata controllers, clients, and volumes.
WARNING: Removing a SAN destroys its volumes. Data stored on the volumes is no longer available.
This operation can’t be undone.
If you want files located on the SAN volumes to be available after you remove the SAN, back up the files.
In the Server app
sidebar, select Xsan from the list of advanced services.Select the Controllers tab.
Select all of the controllers, then click
.Confirm by clicking Delete.
The controller which has been in the SAN the longest retains some Xsan configuration files for the destroyed SAN in /Library/Preferences/Xsan/. This configuration file doesn’t affect future use of this computer with Xsan. The configuration files are retained to communicate the removal of the SAN to Profile Manager.
Once Profile Manager has detected the SAN’s destruction (or if Profile Manager is not being used), these files may be deleted. Take care not to remove the /Library/Preferences/Xsan folder itself.
