Organization preferences in Apple Configurator 2
You can set your organization’s information so devices show it to the user. When you create an organization with Apple Configurator 2, it contains a supervision identity.
After you prepare your supervised devices with a supervision identity, you can share those identities with other Apple Configurator 2 stations that can configure supervised devices securely, knowing that the same supervision identity is on each station.
Important: If you change a supervision identity, you must start over—that is, you must erase, prepare, and supervise the devices again. Even though the actual name of the supervision identity often isn’t critical, you want to standardize on the use of that identity for all instances of a mobile device management (MDM) solution and Apple Configurator 2.
From the Apple Configurator 2 menu, choose Preferences > Organizations. You can then do the following:
Click Add to add organization information and either create a new supervision identity or select an existing one.
Click Remove to remove an organization.
Note: The certificates and private keys for the identity are still in the login and system keychain files. Use Keychain Access if you want to remove them from your Mac.
Click the action pop-up menu to:
Import an organization
Export an organization
Export a supervision identity
For more information about identities, see Generate or choose a supervision identity.
Import an organization
Click the action pop-up menu , select Import Organization, locate your organization file, then click Import.
Enter the password used to encrypt the file, then click Submit.
Export an organization
You can export the organization from Apple Configurator 2 to share with other Mac computers that have Apple Configurator 2 installed. This spreads out the initial configuration by letting more than one Mac configure devices.
Select your organization from the list, click the action pop-up menu , then select Export Organization.
Enter a secure password, then click Set Password.
This protects the file from being used by anyone who doesn’t know the password.
Choose a name and location to save the file, then click Save.
Transfer the file to any other Mac with Apple Configurator 2 installed, then import the organization.
Export a supervision identity
Select your organization from the list, click the action pop-up menu , then choose “Export Supervision Identity” and save it to your desktop.
Make sure the format is “Encrypted PKCS12 (.p12).”
Keep the default name or enter a different name for the identity, click Save, then enter a passphrase to encrypt the identity.
You’ll see a file that ends in .p12 on your desktop.
