Verify your email address or phone number to open a shared item
A message was recently sent to your email address or phone number, inviting you to open a shared note, document, or other item.
If a dialog appears in System Settings asking you to select an email address or phone number to receive a verification link, select the one you want to use for sharing, then click Send Verification Link.
You’re not asked to select an email address or phone number if the sharing invitation was sent to an email address already set up in the Mail app on this Mac.
When you receive a message containing a verification link, click the link.
The link takes you to Apple Account settings or iCloud.com, where you can verify the new email address or phone number. After you enter your password, you can use the new email address or phone number for sharing.
Apple requires verification whenever a change is made to your Apple Account. Your new email address or phone number cannot be used for sharing until it is verified.
If you didn’t make this change or you believe an unauthorized person has accessed your Apple Account, you should change your password as soon as possible by signing in to your Apple Account page.
After the new email address or phone number is added to your Apple Account, follow the onscreen instructions to open the shared note, document, or other item.
Friends and family can also use the new email address or phone number to reach you using iMessage, FaceTime, and more.
