Change the Apple TV app settings on iPhone and iPad
You can change your streaming and download options, clear your viewing history, turn off personalization features, adjust autoplay settings, and update your device preferences for the Apple TV app.
Change streaming and download options
Go to the Settings app
on your iPhone or iPad.
Tap Apps, then tap TV.
Choose streaming options:
Use Cellular Data: Turn off to limit streaming to Wi-Fi connections.
Cellular: Choose High Quality or Automatic.
Wi-Fi: Choose High Quality or Data Saver.
High Quality requires a faster internet connection and uses more data.
Choose download options:
Use Cellular Data: Turn off to limit downloads to Wi-Fi connections.
Cellular: Choose High Quality or Fast Downloads.
Wi-Fi: Choose High Quality or Fast Downloads.
High Quality results in slower downloads and uses more data.
Languages: Choose a language. Each added audio language increases the download size. To remove a language, swipe left on the language you want to remove, then tap Delete.
The default language is the primary language for your country or region. If you turned on Audio Descriptions in Accessibility Settings, audio descriptions are also downloaded.
Automatic Downloads: Turn on to automatically download the next two episodes of shows you start in Continue Watching.
When you finish watching, the shows are automatically deleted.
Note: The streaming and download options you see depend on your device.
Clear your viewing history
Go to the Apple TV app
on your iPhone or iPad.
Do one of the following:
iPhone: Tap Home, then tap your picture or initials at the top right.
iPad: Tap
, then tap your picture or initials at the bottom left.
Tap Privacy & Access, then tap Clear Play History.
Change audio and sign language settings
Go to the Settings app
Tap Apps, then tap TV.
Choose audio options:
Audio Language: Choose Auto to play videos in their default or original language. If you set a different language, the Apple TV app will play dubbed audio in that language when available.
Sign Language: Turn on to watch movies and TV shows with sign language interpretation, when available.
Note: When Sign Language is turned on, downloads of movies and TV shows are approximately twice the file size of the original because a separate ASL/BSL version is also downloaded at the same time.
Change autoplay settings
By default, when you finish watching an episode of a TV show, the next episode automatically plays. And when you finish a series, movie, or sporting event, recommended content automatically plays. You can change these settings.
Go to the Apple TV app
Do one of the following:
iPhone: Tap Home, then tap your picture or initials at the top right.
iPad: Tap
Tap Playback, then do any of the following:
Automatically play the next episode: Turn Play Next Episode on or off.
Automatically play content recommended for you after you finish a series, movie, or sporting event: Turn Play a Recommendation on or off.
Change your device preferences
Go to the Settings app
Tap Apps, then tap TV.
Do any of the following:
Show or hide live sports scores: Turn off Show Sports Scores.
Use your viewing history for personalized recommendations and Continue Watching: Turn on Use Play History.
