
Use your iPhone or iPad to add a photo, scan, or sketch to a Freeform board on Mac
If you want to quickly add a new picture, scan a document, or draw a sketch in your Freeform board, you can use your nearby iPhone or iPad, and it appears instantly on your Mac.
Note: You must turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® on the iPhone or iPad you want to use and sign in to the same Apple Account. The iPhone or iPad must also meet system requirements. See the Apple Support article Continuity features and requirements for Apple devices.
Insert a new photo
Go to the Freeform app
on your Mac.
Click
, then choose Take Photo.
A simple camera app opens on your iPhone or iPad.
Note: If several of your devices are nearby, you see the same three options for each device.
Take the photo, then tap Use Photo, or tap Retake to try again.
On your Mac, the photo appears on your board. You can then format it like any other photo.
Insert a new scan
Go to the Freeform app
on your Mac.
Click
, then choose Scan Documents.
A simple scanning app opens on your iPhone or iPad.
Note: If several of your devices are nearby, you see the same three options for each device.
Follow the instructions on your iPhone or iPad. To adjust the area included in the scan, drag the frame or its edges.
When you’re finished, tap Keep Scan, or tap Retake to try again.
When you’re satisfied with the scan, tap Save.
On your Mac, the scan appears on your board.
Insert a new sketch
Go to the Freeform app
on your Mac.
Click
, then choose Add Sketch.
A simple drawing app opens on your iPhone or iPad.
Note: If several of your devices are nearby, you see the same three options for each device.
Draw a sketch using your finger. On iPad, you can also use Apple Pencil.
When you’re finished, tap Done.
On your Mac, the sketch appears on your board.
Select the sketch to do any of the following:
Replace the sketch: Click
, choose Replace, then select an option.
Focus on the subject of the sketch: Sketches automatically have transparent backgrounds, but you can remove extra strokes. Click
, then choose Remove Background.
Crop the sketch: Click
, drag the slider or the edges, then click Done.
Items you add with your iPhone or iPad can include descriptions and be moved, resized, aligned, rotated, arranged, and locked just like other inserted items.
