Poll people in Messages on Mac
You can send a poll in any iMessage conversation to decide what to eat, which movie to see, where to travel, when to meet, and more. Everyone in the conversation can contribute options and watch as votes come in.
Note: To start, see, or vote in a poll, you must use iMessage on macOS 26, iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, visionOS 26, or later.
Start a poll
Go to the Messages app
on your Mac.
Open a conversation or start a new message, click
to the left of the message field (near the bottom), then click Polls.
Click each row to add options. A poll can have up to 12 options.
Press Return to send the poll to everyone in the conversation who can participate in the poll. Those who can’t participate receive a message that you sent a poll.
Quickly create a suggested poll
Go to the Messages app
Open a conversation or start a new message.
Mention several options in the conversation.
The Create a Poll button appears when Apple Intelligence detects that a poll might come in handy. Click it to create the suggested poll.
Press Return to send the poll to everyone in the conversation who can participate in the poll. Those who can’t participate receive a message that you sent a poll.

Vote in a poll
Go to the Messages app
Open a conversation with a poll in it.
Click an option to add your vote. Click again to remove your vote. You can vote for none or all of the options.
Add an option to a poll
Anyone participating in a poll can add other options, regardless of who started the poll.
Go to the Messages app
Open a conversation with a poll in it.
Click Add Choice, then enter another option.
Press Return to add the option to the poll.
Note: Options are added without votes. Click to vote for any option you add.
Check on the results of a poll
You can see how people voted or who hasn’t voted yet.
Go to the Messages app
Open a conversation with a poll in it.
Control-click the poll, then click Poll Details.
