Wi-Fi menu icons on Mac
You can use the Wi-Fi menu on your Mac to see the status of your wireless network connection, switch between networks, or turn Wi-Fi on or off. The icon changes, depending on the current Wi-Fi status and connection.

This icon also appears next to the list of available Wi-Fi networks, where the number of bars indicate the strength of the connection.
Wi-Fi is off or not available.
Wi-Fi is on, but not associated with a network.
The Mac is using an internet connection shared by an iPhone or iPad.
The Mac is connected to another device using a temporary Wi-Fi connection.
The Mac is sharing its internet connection over Wi-Fi.
No internet. This icon is displayed when a router and IP address can’t be assigned to the Wi-Fi interface.
