Add a password hint on Mac
A password hint can help you remember the password for your account on this Mac. The hint appears if you enter the wrong password three consecutive times, or if you click the question mark in the password field in the login window.
Add or change your password hint
To add or change a password hint, change your password.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu
Click Change Password.
Enter your existing password in the “Old password” field, enter and verify a new password, then enter a password hint.
To use the Password Assistant, click the key
next to the Password field. See Tips for creating secure passwords.Click Change Password.
Add or change someone else’s password hint
An administrator may add a hint or reset the password of other users.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu
Open Users & Groups preferences for me
If the lock at the bottom left is locked
, click it to unlock the preference pane.Select a user, then click Reset Password.
To use the Password Assistant, click the key
next to the Password field. See Tips for creating secure passwords.If other users are logged in to this Mac now, you can’t select them.
Enter and verify a new password for the user, enter a password hint, then click Reset Password.
