Set up a Chinese or Cantonese input source on Mac
On your Mac, add input sources so you can use a standard keyboard to type in Chinese or Cantonese.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Keyboard in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Go to Text Input, then click Edit.
Click , select “Chinese, Simplified,” “Chinese, Traditional,” or “Cantonese, Traditional” (scroll down in the sidebar on the left or use the search field), then select an input source in the list on the right.
Tip: You can add a handwriting input source even if you don’t use other input sources for that language. For example, you can add Handwriting - Cantonese even when English is the only other input source added.
Click Add.
Note: If your Mac has a Touch Bar, you can customize the Control Strip by adding , , or both. To learn how to change the Control Strip, see Customize the Touch Bar.
After you set up a Chinese or Cantonese input source, you can switch to the input source you want to use and then start typing Chinese or Cantonese characters.
