Add Custom Action Links in Apple Business Connect
Actions appear at the top of a business’s Place Card and contain links that can be used to order food, buy tickets, make a reservation, and more. These are known as Action Links. Businesses can also create Custom Action Links on their Place Cards by adding a link to their own website or preferred platform. Custom Action Links can be created in the Apple Business Connect portal and also with the Apple Business Connect API.
Maps users can then access these custom action links at the top of your Place Card by tapping the Action button such as “Order” or “Tickets.”
Important: For users to access Custom Action Links from your Place Card on iPhone and iPad, their devices require iOS 17.4 or iPadOS 17.4, or later.
There are two types of Custom Action Links: Quick Links and App Clips.
Quick Links
Quick Links are URL-based action buttons. The URL associated with the Quick Link provides a path to a deep link in your app. When tapped by the user, it opens the associated app at the deep link location. There are two methods of working with Quick Links:
Register your Quick Links with Location properties on the Apple Business Connect API website.
Your app may also leverage Universal Links. See Allowing apps and websites to link to your content on the Apple Developer website.
App Clips
App Clips open the linked app and perform small, quick tasks. App Clips aren’t yet available through the Apple Business Connect API; however, you can register App Clips through the App Store Connect API. See App Clips and App Clip Experiences on the Apple Developer website.
Using the Apple Business Connect API with Actions
Adding Actions using the Apple Business Connect API requires that the Enterprise company and Third-Party Partner be registered with Apple Business Connect and that the Enterprise company successfully delegate authority to the Third-Party Partner. See Share your businesses with a Third-Party Partner using a Partner ID.
Using the Apple Business Connect API, you can create Custom Action Links. These allow direct customer experiences within your company’s website or app, or those of a trusted Third-Party Partner (such as OpenTable, Booking.com, Instacart, and more).
Category actions for custom action links
Each category has several actions and you can create custom action links for one or more of them. For example, if your main category is dining, you can add custom action links to some or all of the following actions:
Menu
Reserve
Waitlist
Pickup
Delivery
Gift Card
Parking
Shows
Tickets
Careers
There may also be category actions (for example, in this case, Shows, and Tickets) that you don’t want to contain a custom action link.
About the Primary Action
The very first action that contains a custom action link becomes your Primary Action. The Primary action appears as a button to the right of the business website button and to the left of the More (ellipsis) button.
To view a task below, select the plus button next to its title.
Create a custom action link
You can create more than one custom action link for each action. For example, you may want to create two custom action links for the Menu action; one to a page on OpenTable, and one to a page on Booking.com.
Custom action links must start with https:// and contain:
The path to a page on your (or a supported third-party) website
A universal link to a location within your (or a supported third-party) app
