Update your family devices to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27
If you’re a parent or guardian with children in your Family Sharing group, you can take advantage of the redesigned parental controls experience by updating all eligible devices in your Family Sharing group to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 or later. After updating your family’s devices, you’ll be able to transfer your existing parental controls or set up new ones.
See which devices still need to be updated
After you update your device to version 27 or later of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS, you and other parents or guardians in your Family Sharing group will be able to see which devices in your family still need to be updated. Then you can install the new parental controls for everyone in your family.
Go to the Settings app (or System Settings on Mac), then select Family.
Choose View Family Devices, then review the list of devices that can be updated.
Update your family’s devices
Go to the Settings app (or System Settings on Mac), then select General.
Choose Software Update, then follow the onscreen instructions.
After you update your family’s devices, you can transfer your existing parental controls or set up new ones. Go to Settings (or System Settings on Mac), select Family, then click or tap Get Started.

If you can’t find a device that’s eligible for an update or you no longer have access to it, you can remove it from your Apple Account. See the Apple Support article, Check your Apple Account device list to find where you’re signed in.
If you can’t update some devices
Some devices in your family may not be able to update. Here’s how to see a list of these devices:
Go to the Settings app (or System Settings on Mac), then select Family.
Choose View Family Devices, then choose Legacy Devices.
The devices that can’t be updated can still use Screen Time and Family Sharing settings from iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, or earlier.
