About AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss claims

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss provides up to two years of technical support and hardware coverage for your iPhone. You also get 24/7 priority access to Apple Support for up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling, theft, or loss. Each claim is subject to a deductible.

Theft and loss coverage requires you to have Find My iPhone enabled on your device at the time it is lost or stolen.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is available for purchase only in the United States and for iPhone.

How to file a claim for a lost or stolen iPhone

The easiest and quickest way to file a claim is online. To sign in, you need two-factor authentication turned on for your Apple ID, and another trusted device or trusted phone number. If your previous iPhone was your only trusted device, you'll need another trusted phone number.

After you sign in and start your claim, you'll be directed to Assurant's website to complete the claim.

If you're unable to sign in or start a claim online, contact Apple Support. Make sure that you have your Apple ID and the serial number of your lost or stolen iPhone.

When you start a claim

During the theft or loss claims process, you'll be asked to erase your missing device, disable it, and transfer ownership before you can be issued a new device. Your iPhone will be unusable and no one will be able to access any data stored on it. You'll receive an email from Apple saying that your iPhone is being erased.

If you initiated your theft or loss claim with Apple, you'll be asked to finalize your claim on Assurant’s website. While the claim is in progress, you won't be able to disable Find My iPhone on the device or remove the device from iCloud. If you had Apple Pay set up on your iPhone, your cards will be removed.

If you cancel your claim

If your claim is cancelled, your iPhone will be usable again, but you'll have to set it up like a new device, including a new passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID. To get the data previously stored on your iPhone, restore your iPhone from a backup.

When your claim is approved

When your claim is approved, your previous iPhone will be permanently disabled and you'll receive a replacement from Assurant. Assurant will then be the owner of your old iPhone. So if you find your lost or stolen iPhone after your claim has been approved, you won't be able to use it again.

If you need to check the status of your claim

When you submit a claim, the process is handled by Assurant. If you need to check the status of your claim, contact Assurant directly. Apple can only confirm whether or not you filed a claim, but doesn't have information about the status of the claim.

You can contact Assurant with this information:

  • Phone: 1-877-406-4554
  • Online: www.assurantdeviceclaim.com

Before you contact Assurant, make sure you have these things on hand:

  • Apple dispatch ID or Assurant claim number
  • The serial number or IMEI of your iPhone
