Add and manage sections in News Publisher
Sections appear at the top of your channel feed in the News app. You can add, delete, and reorder sections at any time.
Note: You can’t delete or reorder the default section for channels published in Apple News Format.
A section can contain articles created in your content management system, articles you created in a text editor and uploaded, articles created in News Publisher, or a mix of all three.
Note: Section names must have no more than 40 characters.
Add a section
Go to icloud.com, sign in, then click News Publisher.
Click Articles, click Edit Sections in the sidebar, then click Add Section.
Enter a name in the Section Name field, then click Save.
Newly created sections appear in Apple News after you publish at least one article to them. See Publish ANF articles in News Publisher.
Use section links
In News Publisher, you can get section IDs to use in API requests, share section links, and open sections in the News app.
Go to icloud.com, sign in, then click News Publisher.
Click Articles, click
next to a section, then, in the Section Details window, do any of the following:Copy the section ID: Click Copy next to Section ID.
Share a link to a section: Click Copy next to Section Link, then share the link.
Open a link in the News app: Click View next to Section Link.
To view the section, users need to open the link on a device with iOS 9 or later, iPadOS 13 or later, or macOS 10.14 or later.
Reorder sections
Go to icloud.com, sign in, then click News Publisher.
Click Articles, click Edit Sections, then, to the right of the section name in the sidebar, drag
up or down.
Delete a section
Go to icloud.com, sign in, then click News Publisher.
Click Articles, click Edit Sections, move your pointer over the section name in the sidebar, click
, then click Save.
The section is removed from the News app, and its articles are not accessible unless they were also published to another of the channel’s sections. If one of your readers has saved an article in the News app, they can still access it in Saved Stories.
In News Publisher, any published articles can still be found by clicking All Published Articles in the sidebar.
