Change General preferences in Music on Mac
In the Music app on your Mac, use the General pane in Music preferences to specify a library name, choose how to show lists and more.
To change these preferences, choose Music > Preferences, then click General.

Sync Library | Select to access your music library on this computer. Note: This option appears if you’re signed in as a subscriber to Apple Music or iTunes Match. | ||||||||||
Automatic Downloads | When you make purchases from the iTunes Store on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or on another computer, the purchased items are automatically downloaded to this computer. Note: This option appears if you’re signed in as a subscriber to Apple Music or iTunes Match. | ||||||||||
Always check for available downloads | Music displays the number of items you previously purchased from the iTunes Store but didn’t download. Note: This option appears if you’re signed in as a subscriber to Apple Music or iTunes Match. | ||||||||||
iTunes Store | Display or hide the iTunes Store in the sidebar. | ||||||||||
Star ratings | Display or hide star ratings for songs. | ||||||||||
Songs list tickboxes | Display or hide tickboxes when viewing items in your library in a list. | ||||||||||

When song changes | Display a notification from Notification Centre when a new song begins to play. | ||||||||||
When a CD is inserted | If your computer has a CD or DVD drive, or if you have an external drive connected to your computer, choose what happens when you insert a CD. | ||||||||||
Automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet | If your computer has a CD or DVD drive, or if you have an external drive connected to your computer, choose to automatically display song and artist names when you insert an audio CD (to retrieve track names, you must be connected to the internet). |
