If you see an unwanted or spam iMessage in the Messages app

You can report an unwanted or spam iMessage to Apple.

Report a spam iMessage to Apple

If you think an iMessage might be spam, send an email with the following details to imessage.spam@apple.com:

  • A screenshot of the message (Use these steps to take a screenshot on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.)
  • The email address or phone number that you received the unwanted message from 
  • The date and time that you received the message

You can also block calls or messages from a phone number or email address.

See if a message is an SMS, MMS, or iMessage

To see if a message was sent using iMessage, check the conversation thread. iMessages are blue, and you'll see "iMessage" in the text field. SMS and MMS messages are green, and you'll see "Text Message" in the text field. Learn more about SMS, MMS, and iMessage.

You should report unwanted or spam SMS and MMS messages to your cellular provider. Contact your carrier for help.
