Browse free audio episodes and shows about topics that range from entertainment and comedy to news and sports in the Podcasts app.
You can also listen to shows in iTunes on a Mac or PC. Click the menu in the upper-left corner of iTunes, then choose Podcasts.
Find and subscribe
Open the Podcasts app on your iOS device, then tap Browse at the bottom of the screen. In the Featured and Top Charts sections, you'll find shows that are new and popular. Tap Providers to find shows from specific companies, or tap All Categories to find shows on topics such as News & Politics, Comedy, Technology, and more.
Search by title or topic
To find a specific podcast or search for a show or episode that matches your interests, tap Search at the bottom of the screen, then enter the title of a podcast or a topic. You'll see both shows and individual episodes in the search results.
When you find a show that you want to subscribe to, tap it to go to the show's info page, then tap . After you subscribe, you'll automatically get new episodes for free as they become available.
Apple Podcasts might pause your subscription if you stop listening to a show. The shows and downloaded episodes stay in your library, but new episodes might not be updated. To continue getting new episodes, subscribe again.
Listen to shows
You can stream and download shows at home or on the go with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Tap Listen Now at the bottom of the screen to find the latest episodes of shows that you're subscribed to. Tap Library at the bottom of the screen to listen to specific shows or episodes. You can also stream an episode from Browse.
When you find an episode that you want to listen to, tap it, then tap Play.
To stream shows using cellular data, make sure Cellular Data is turned on in Settings > Cellular > Podcasts.
Customize playback settings
Tap or swipe up on the player at the bottom of the screen to open the Now Playing screen. From the Now Playing screen, you can:
- Tap or to jump back or forward 15 seconds.
- Tap to change the playback speed. You can change your playback speed to 1 1/2x (slightly faster), 2x (fast), 1/2x (slightly slower), and back to 1x (normal speed).
- Tap to use AirPlay to stream the episode to another device.
Swipe up on the Now Playing screen to find additional features.
- Tap , then choose when you want playback to end.
- Tap to share the episode with friends using Message, Mail, social media, and more.
- Tap Show to the right of Description to read a description of the episode.
- And if you have episodes in your Up Next queue, you'll see them listed under Up Next.
Listen continuously with Up Next
- While listening to an episode, find the episode that you want to listen to next.
- Tap the on the episode’s info page or use 3D Touch on the name of the episode.
- Tap Play Next to add it to your Up Next queue.
If you want to add additional episodes to your Up Next queue, follow the steps, but tap Play Later. The episode adds to the bottom of your queue.
You can also start listening to an episode in the Podcasts app on one Apple device, and finish the episode on another. Learn more about syncing podcasts.
Download episodes to listen to offline
If you want to download an episode to listen to while you're not connected to Wi-Fi or the Internet, tap on the episode's info page.
To download podcasts using cellular data, go to Settings > Podcasts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and turn off "Only Download on Wi-Fi." The maximum download size is 100 MB per episode.
Unsubscribe or delete
You can unsubscribe from podcasts or delete individual episodes.
Find the show that you want to unsubscribe from, tap , then tap Unsubscribe. No new episodes will download to your device.
Delete a specific episode
Go to your Library, then find the show with the episode that you want to delete. Swipe left on the episode, then tap Delete.
When you unsubscribe from a show, episodes in your Library or those that you downloaded to your device to listen to offline don't delete. If you want to unsubscribe and delete all episodes from your Library and device, tap , then tap "Delete from Library."
You won't see the option to unsubscribe if you stopped listening to a show.
