Reset the printing system on your Mac

If other steps don't fix your printing issue, resetting the printing system might help.

You can reset the printing system as a final step when other steps for resolving printer issues don't succeed. Resetting the printing system causes all printers and scanners—including their custom settings—to be removed from the Printers & Scanners pane of System Preferences. All queues and jobs are also removed. Afterward, you'll need to set up your printers and scanners again.

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Click Printers & Scanners.
In some versions of OS X, this preference is named Print & Scan or Print & Fax.
  3. Control-click anywhere in the list of devices on the left, then choose “Reset printing system” from the shortcut menu that appears.
