Before You Begin

 Warning

  • Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  1. Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm) (923-02995)

  2. JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver (923-09177)

  3. Nylon probe (black stick) (922-5065)

  4. ESD-safe tweezers

  5. Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  6. 6.9-inch repair tray (923-10715)

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

 Caution

  • Avoid touching the camera lenses, TrueDepth camera grounding springs, or nearby parts.

  • The LiDAR Scanner is now part of the camera module. These two modules should not be separated.

Important

If you replace this part, it's recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.

Removal

Important

Wearing nitrile or lint-free gloves and covering the camera is recommended to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  1. Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove three crosshead screws from the camera. Set aside the screws.

    • Caution: Avoid touching the camera lenses.

  2. Lift the ends of the three flex cables off the connectors. The camera is now removed.

Reassembly

Important

A protective cover is included with a replacement camera. Leave the cover on while installing the new camera.

  1. Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  2. Inspect the grounding springs on the camera for damage before reassembly. Ensure that the grounding springs aren’t bent or broken.

    • Important: If the grounding springs are broken or bent, you may need to replace the camera.

  3. Position the camera in the enclosure.

  4. Press the end of the button flex cable to the connector.

  5. Press the ends of the camera flex cables to the connectors.

  6. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and the adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-11127) (1) and (923-11125) (2) into the camera. Then change the torque value to 14.5 Ncm and install one new crosshead screw (923-11125) (3) into the camera.

    • Important: Remove the protective cover from the replacement camera before you reinstall the back glass.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

Important

  • After you’ve completed all reassembly steps, Repair Assistant will be available on the device and is recommended to finish the repair. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.

  • Camera calibration requires a well-lit room and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Follow the onscreen instructions.
