If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad

When you turn on and connect your device to a computer, it should appear in the Finder or in the Apple Devices app.

Use Windows PC

  1. Open the Apple Devices app.

  2. Connect your Apple device to your Windows PC using a USB cable.

  3. If you see the “Trust this Computer?” alert on your device, click Trust. If you don’t see the alert, or you accidentally tapped Don’t Trust, reset location and privacy settings as described in About the 'Trust This Computer’ alert.

Your device appears in the sidebar of the Apple Devices app window.

If your computer still doesn't recognize your device:

If your computer still doesn't recognize your device, you might need to contact support for service.

Use Mac

  1. Connect your Apple device to your Mac using a USB cable.

  2. If you see the "Allow accessory to connect?" alert on your Mac, click Allow.

  3. If you see the “Trust this Computer?” alert on your device, click Trust. If you don’t see the alert, or you accidentally tapped Don’t Trust, reset location and privacy settings as described in About the 'Trust This Computer’ alert.

Your device appears in the sidebar of the Finder window. If you don't see a sidebar in the Finder window:

  1. From the menu bar, choose View.

  2. Click Show Sidebar.
