iPhone 15 Plus Taptic Engine

Before You Begin

 Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  • 6.7-inch repair tray

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • JCIS bit

  • JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Super screw bit for adjustable torque driver

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm)

Removal

  1. Place the enclosure in the repair tray with the USB-C connector facing the cutout.

  2. Use the adjustable torque driver and the JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver to remove four crosshead screws: two from the Taptic Engine connector cowling and two from the Taptic Engine. Set aside the screws.

  3. Remove the Taptic Engine connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

  4. Use the adjustable torque driver and the super screw bit for adjustable torque driver to remove one super screw from the Taptic Engine. Set aside the screw.

  5. Lift the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable off the connector.

  6. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the Taptic Engine from the enclosure.

Reassembly

  1. Position the Taptic Engine in the enclosure.

  2. Press the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable to the connector.

  3. Insert the super screw bit for adjustable torque driver into the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 11.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and the super screw bit to install one new super screw (923-09855).

  4. Position the Taptic Engine connector cowling over the end of the flex cable.

  5. Use the blue torque driver and JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-09849) (1).

  6. Use the orange torque driver and the JCIS bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-09850) (2) (923-09852) (3).

  7. Insert the JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver into the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 10 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and the JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-09851) (4).

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
