Top up your transit card with Apple Pay

Use Apple Pay to add money or passes to eligible transit cards on your iPhone or Apple Watch. If you manage a family member's Apple Watch on your iPhone, you can also remotely add money to their transit card.

How to top up your transit card

  1. On your iPhone or Apple Watch, open the Wallet app.

  2. Tap your transit card.

  3. Tap Add money.

  4. Choose an amount to add to your card and tap Add.

  5. Choose a card to pay with and authenticate to complete the transaction.

Buy new passes or tickets

  1. On your iPhone or Apple Watch, open the Wallet app.

  2. Choose the transit card that you want to add value to.

  3. If you're using your iPhone, tap the More button.

  4. Tap Buy Passes.

  5. Choose the pass that you want to purchase.

  6. Follow the steps on the screen to confirm your purchase.

Renew or buy more passes

  1. On your iPhone or Apple Watch, open the Wallet app.

  2. Choose the transit card that you want to add value to.

  3. Tap Renew or Buy More.

  4. Follow the steps on the screen to confirm your purchase and add value to your card.

How to top up a family member's transit card

If you manage a family member's Apple Watch with your iPhone, you can also add money to the transit card on their Apple Watch. When they make a request, respond and top up their card.

  1. Tap the request in iMessage.

  2. Choose an amount to send.

  3. Tap the send buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

  4. Confirm the purchase with Face ID or Touch ID.

If you can't top up your transit card

  • Learn what to do if you add money and your balance doesn't update in the Wallet app.

  • If you don't see the option to add money, check the website of the transit card issuer to learn how to add value.

  • If you can't top up your family member's transit card, check that they haven't removed the card from their Apple Watch.

  • If you have questions about or need a refund, contact your local transit agency.
