Find and replace text in TextEdit on Mac
Find and replace text in a TextEdit document.
In the TextEdit app on your Mac, choose Edit > Find > Find, then type text in the search field.
You can also select text, then choose Edit > Find > Use Selection for Find.
Do one of the following:
Go to the next or previous instance in the results: Click the arrow buttons located beside the search field.
Clear the search field: Click the Clear button at the end of the search field.
Set options for the current search: Click the Search Options button in the search field, then select or deselect items in the pop-up menu. For example, to find text that exactly matches the capitalization of your search term, deselect Ignore Case.
To search for special characters and text patterns, choose Insert Pattern from the pop-up menu, then select an item in the list.
Replace the found text with new text: Select the Replace checkbox next to the Done button, enter the new text in the second field (right under the search field), then click Replace. To replace all instances of the found text with the new text, click All. You can also click and hold All for more options, such as Replace All In Selection.
When you’re finished, click Done.
