
Add an image in Keynote on iPhone
You can add photos, graphics, and SVG images to any slide and replace media placeholders with your own images. You can add images from photo albums on your device, insert them from iCloud, generate them from a text description, or take a photo with your device and add it directly to your slide.
You can also add premium images from the Content Hub to your presentation. Tap
in the toolbar, tap an object category in the top of the dialog, then tap a premium image to add it to the slide. Anyone can use premium Content Hub images, but you need to subscribe to Apple Creator Studio to remove watermarks from them. To learn more, see Learn more about Apple Creator Studio.
Tip: If you have an iPhone with A17 Pro or later, you can use Image Playground with Apple Intelligence* to create fun, original images based on a description and suggested concepts. You can also easily adjust the style and make changes to match text on a slide. Select the text or image you want to work with, then tap Add to Playground. Add an image
Go to the Keynote app
on your iPhone.Open a presentation, tap
in the toolbar, tap
, then tap Choose Photo or Video.To insert an SVG image, or a file from iCloud or another service, tap Choose File.
Navigate to the image, then tap it.
Drag any blue dot to resize the image, then tap
.
If you can’t replace an image on a slide, the image may be locked or grouped.
You can also copy an image from another document or application.
Generate an image from a text description
If you are subscribed to Apple Creator Studio and your device supports Apple Intelligence, then you can use Image Generation to create a custom, high-resolution image from a text description. To learn more about Apple Intelligence, see How to get Apple Intelligence.

Go to the Keynote app
on your iPhone.Open a presentation, then tap
, scroll down, then tap Generate Image.Select the style, view, and aspect of the image you want to create in the Generate an Image window.
Type or paste a text description for the image you want to generate in the text field, then tap
.An image based on your text description and selections is generated.
To edit the image, use the the controls at the bottom of the screen or type in the text field, then tap
.To start over, tap
.Do one of the following:
Save the image: Tap
, then choose where you want to save the image.Add the image to the slide: Tap the Insert button.
Note: If you are asked to send the image, select Allow Once or Always Allow.
Important: Image Generation is subject to usage limitations. To check your usage status, tap
, tap Intelligence Features, then tap Show Usage Status.
Create a media placeholder
You can add a media placeholder (to which you can add an image, video, or audio file) to a presentation. Using a media placeholder lets you easily replace media without disturbing other elements on the slide.
Go to the Keynote app
on your iPhone.Open a presentation, then add an image to your slide.
Tap the image to select it, tap
, tap Image, then tap Set as Placeholder.You can format the image to match the way you want the presentation's images to look. For example, you can add a mask or border, rotate the image, or change its size.
Replace a media placeholder with an image
Go to the Keynote app
on your iPhone.Open a presentation with a media placeholder.
Tap
in the bottom-right corner of a media placeholder, then tap Choose Photo or Video.Navigate to the image.
To use a photo from iCloud or another service, tap “Insert from” below the albums.
Tap the photo you want to add.
If you’re inserting a photo from iCloud or another service, tap folders to locate the image.
Drag any blue dot to resize the image, then tap
.
Take a photo in Keynote and add it to a presentation
You can take a photo with the camera on your device and insert the image directly into your presentation.
Go to the Keynote app
on your iPhone.Open a presentation, then do one of the following on the slide where you want to add a photo:
Tap
in the bottom-right corner of a media placeholder, then tap Take Photo or Video.Tap
in the toolbar, tap
, then tap Take Photo or Video.
To take the photo, tap Photo, tap
, then do one of the following:Insert the photo: Tap Use Photo.
Take the photo again: Tap Retake.
Cancel and return to the presentation: Tap Retake, then tap Cancel.
Drag any blue dot to resize the image, then tap
.
You can edit the photo as you would any other image. The photo appears in the Photos app on your device.
Add an image description
You can add a description to any image in your presentation. Image descriptions are read by assistive technology (for example, VoiceOver) when someone uses that technology to access your presentation. Image descriptions aren’t visible anywhere in your presentation.
Go to the Keynote app
on your iPhone.Open a presentation, tap an image to select it, tap
, then tap Image.Tap Description, then tap in the text box and enter your text.
If you export your presentation as a PDF, image descriptions are still readable by assistive technology. See Export to PowerPoint or another file format.

To work with multiple images at the same time, touch and hold one image, then tap the other images with another finger.
