Intro to formulas and functions
When you work with tables in Numbers, or in Pages, Keynote, or iBooks Author on your Mac, you can use formulas to perform calculations and display their results. You have access to more than two hundred fifty functions that you can use in your formulas to perform calculations, retrieve information, or manipulate data.
Formulas and Functions Help describes how to add formulas and functions to your tables, provides detailed information about all the functions, and explains how to use the Functions Browser that is built into the apps. The Functions Browser provides the same definitions and usage guidelines for each function as you will find in this help, so you can look there, or in this help, for information about any of the functions.
To get started, just type the equal sign in an empty table cell to open the Formula Editor.
For specific instructions on how to accomplish tasks in the app you’re using, see the help that accompanies your app.
macOS apps: Click the Help menu.
iOS and iPadOS apps: Tap the More menu (three dots in the top-right corner), then tap Numbers Help. (If you don’t see Numbers Help, swipe up from the bottom of the controls.)
iCloud apps: Click the Question Mark button in the top-right corner.
