Manage grocery categories in Reminders on Mac
You can create your own categories or rename the predefined categories in grocery lists. With Apple Intelligence, you can also automatically organize related reminders into categories within a list.

All Reminders features described in this guide are available when you use updated iCloud reminders. Some features aren’t available if you are using accounts from other providers.
Add additional grocery categories
Go to the Reminders app
on your Mac.
Select a grocery list in the sidebar.
If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.
Click
in the toolbar (or choose File > New Section).
Enter a name for the new grocery category, then press Return.
Rename grocery categories
Go to the Reminders app
on your Mac.
Select a grocery list in the sidebar.
If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.
Do one of the following:
Select a category, then enter a new name.
Choose File > Edit Sections, select a category, click
, choose Rename Section, enter a new name for the category, then click Done.
If you previously changed the name of the section, you can choose Restore Section Name to change it back to the original name.
Rearrange grocery categories
You can change the order of the grocery categories to match the arrangement of your favorite supermarket.
Go to the Reminders app
on your Mac.
Select a grocery list in the sidebar.
If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.
Choose File > Edit Sections.
Select a category, then drag it into the order you prefer.
When you’re finished rearranging the categories, click Done.
Show or hide empty grocery categories
Go to the Reminders app
on your Mac.
Select a grocery list in the sidebar.
If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.
Choose File > Edit Sections, then select or deselect the Hide Empty Sections checkbox.
Turn Auto-Categorize on or off
With Auto-Categorize, Apple Intelligence automatically sorts related reminders into sections within a list.
Go to the Reminders app
on your Mac.
Click a list in the sidebar.
Do one of the following:
Turn on Auto-Categorize: Choose File > Auto-Categorize.
Turn off Auto-Categorize: Choose File, deselect Auto-Categorize, then choose whether to keep or remove the sections.
If you don’t like how the sections are categorized, try turning off Auto-Categorize and removing the sections, then turn it back on. This resets your section titles and organization within a list.
