Open, lock or share information in apps with Classroom
You can manage app usage on students’ devices, including opening, locking and sharing information through various apps.
Open an app on the students’ devices
You can open an app on all the students’ devices. To complete this task, each student must have the app on their device.
Open the Classroom app on your Mac, then do one of the following:
Select all the students.
Select a specific group.
Click Open in the toolbar, then do one of the following to open that app on the devices of all selected students:
Select an app in the list.
Enter the name of an app in the Search bar, then select the app.
Click Open to open the app on the student devices, then click Done.

Hide open apps on students’ devices
To help keep students on task, you can hide open apps on students’ devices.
Open the Classroom app on your Mac, then do one of the following:
Select all the students.
Select a specific group.
Click Hide in the toolbar.
Lock an app open (iPad only)
You can lock an app open on students’ iPad devices and prevent the students from closing the app or opening up any other app. To complete this task, all the students must have the app on their iPad devices.
Open the Classroom app on your Mac, then do one of the following:
Select all the students.
Select a specific group.
Click Open in the toolbar, then do one of the following to open that app on the iPad devices of all selected students:
Scroll to locate the app in the list.
Enter the name of the app in the Search bar.
Tick the box “Lock in app after opening”.
Click Open to open the app on the students’ iPad devices, then click Done.

Unlock devices locked to an app (iPad only)
If you enabled “Lock in app after opening”, you must follow these steps to turn it off:
Note: Unlocking a device locked to an app doesn’t quit the app.
Open the Classroom app on your Mac, then select the group that had “Lock in app after opening” enabled.
Click Unlock in the toolbar to turn off “Lock in app after opening”, then click Done.
Note: If you perform this task with a group in which some students have their devices locked, their screens will become unlocked.

Share documents directly from an app
You can also share a document from an app. For example, you can share a document from the Pages app.
Open the Classroom app on your Mac, then click the Share menu, then select Send a Copy.
Select AirDrop.
Depending on the app, you may be able to select a document format.
Click Next, then select your class.
