Use roles to organize clips in Final Cut Pro for iPad
Roles are metadata text and color labels assigned to clips to help you organize the timeline and visually identify the type of clip, such as video, music, effects, titles, or subtitles. Roles can be either video roles or audio roles. If a clip has both video and audio, it can be assigned a video role and an audio role.
When you import clips or generate captions—for example, to create subtitles—Final Cut Pro analyzes existing clip metadata and automatically assigns a color-coded role to each clip. For example, if a source media file has a Music “genre” metadata tag, Final Cut Pro assigns a green Music role to the imported clip. You can view and change the roles assigned to clips.
How video and audio roles appear in the timeline
Because roles are color-coded, you can instantly recognize clips of the same role. Video clips—which by default are assigned the Video role for video and the Dialogue role for audio—are blue, sound effects clips are teal, music clips are green, and soundtracks included with Final Cut Pro have an olive color. Title clips and subtitle clips are distinct shades of purple.
