Change Wi-Fi preferences on Mac
Use the Wi-Fi pane of Network preferences on your Mac to set up and manage your Wi-Fi connection.
To change these preferences on your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Network, then select Wi-Fi.

Status | Displays whether you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network. You can also turn Wi-Fi on or off. | ||||||||||
Network Name | Choose a network from the pop-up menu. If the network is protected with a password, you’ll be prompted to enter it. | ||||||||||
Automatically join this network | Select this checkbox if you want to automatically join the specified network. | ||||||||||
Ask to join Personal Hotspots | Select this checkbox if you want to be asked to join nearby Personal Hotspots when no known Wi-Fi networks are available. | ||||||||||
Ask to join new networks | Select this checkbox if you want to be notified when networks you haven’t joined are available. | ||||||||||
802.1X | If you have a profile installed for a network protected by 802.1X, the network name is displayed. Click Connect to join the network. | ||||||||||
Show Wi-Fi status in menu bar | You can use the Wi-Fi status icon to turn Wi-Fi on or off, join a Wi-Fi network, join a hidden network, create a network, or open Network preferences. | ||||||||||
Advanced | Click Advanced or Option-click Advanced to set more options, such as preferred networks, requirements for administrator authorization, TCP/IP settings, DNS, WINS, proxy server settings, and more. Use Option-click if you also want to set options to specify which networks should be considered hidden or which Wi-Fi passwords can be shared. |
