iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) TrueDepth Camera

Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) TrueDepth Camera

Tools

  • 11-inch repair tray

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Ethanol wipes or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes

  • JCIS bit for crosshead screws

  • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (black, 0.35 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 3IP 25 mm bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Important

If you replace this part, it is required to run Repair Assistant in order to enable security features. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Remove the covers from the TrueDepth camera connector cowling.

  2. Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the four crosshead screws from the TrueDepth camera connector cowling. Set aside the screws. Then remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.

  3. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws from the TrueDepth camera. Set aside the screws. Then lift the three ends of the TrueDepth camera flex cables off the connectors.

  4. Gently pry the TrueDepth camera to remove it from the enclosure.

Reassembly

Caution

Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  1. Use an ethanol wipe or IPA wipe to clean the enclosure of any adhesive residue in the TrueDepth camera area.

  2. Install new grounding tape as shown.

  3. Inspect the replacement TrueDepth camera. If the protective cover on the camera lens or the camera assembly is damaged, replace the TrueDepth camera.

  4. Position the TrueDepth camera in the camera opening of the enclosure.

  5. Press the three ends of the TrueDepth camera flex cables to the connectors.

  6. Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to install two new 3IP screws (452-09665) into the TrueDepth camera.

  7. Position the TrueDepth camera connector cowling. Then use the black torque driver and JCIS bit to install four new crosshead screws (1-4) into the cowling.

    • Two screws (452-10354) (1, 2)

    • Two screws (452-06581) (3, 4)

  8. Reinstall the covers on the TrueDepth camera connector cowling.

  9. Install new foam on the TrueDepth camera. Then remove the liner from the foam.

  10. Install new tape on the TrueDepth camera. Then remove the liner from the tape.

  11. Use ESD-safe tweezers to remove the protective cover from the TrueDepth camera.

    • Caution: Don't touch the camera lens after you remove the protective cover.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

After you’ve completed all reassembly steps, Repair Assistant will be available on the device and is required to enable security features. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.

Note: If you have not run Repair Assistant, the device’s parts and service history may show a part status of “finish repair,” and Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair may show a part status of “unknown.”
