Change General preferences in Contacts on Mac
Use General preferences in Contacts to choose how names and addresses are shown on contact cards.
To change these preferences in the Contacts app on your Mac, choose Contacts > Preferences, then click General.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Show First Name | Display contacts’ first names before or after their last names. This setting determines the order of the names in the card template in Contacts Template preferences. |
Sort By | Sort contacts by first or last name. |
Short Name Format | Choose how contacts’ names appear—for example, first name only or full name—in apps like Mail. |
Prefer nicknames | Show nicknames for contacts, if a nickname is available in the nickname field on a contact’s card. |
Show Siri Suggestions | Show suggested contacts found in other apps like Mail. |
Address Format | Choose a country or region’s address format to use to display street addresses. |
Default Account | If you use multiple accounts in Contacts, choose the account where you want to add new contacts by default. |
