Intro to Configurations in Apple Business
Overview
With Apple Business, you can create Configurations for devices. Examples of Configurations are Wi-Fi, VPN, and iCloud.
To quickly get to configurations you may want to apply, Apple Business shows them in four categories—Recommended, Security, Network, and Personalization. (You can also view All Configurations to see which ones you want to apply.) Configurations can apply multiple options to a device. Which Configuration you apply to a device depends on the device’s operating system.
Multiple configurations
You can add more than one configuration to a device through a Blueprint. For example, you can have more than one Wi-Fi configuration. You may have a configuration for users in one physical location and one configuration for users in another physical location. Some users may travel between locations and need a configuration for both.
Single configurations
Certain configurations, such as Application Layer Firewall, can have only a single configuration per device. You can still create more than one Application Layer Firewall configuration, but you need to set a priority for it before that configuration is saved. For example, you may have two locations and you create two Application Layer Firewall configurations, each with different rules. Because there’s more than one configuration, you need to decide which one is applied.
The following table shows the name of each configuration and the operating system supported by that configuration. For a specific configurations in Apple Business, you select iOS (which automatically includes iPadOS), macOS, tvOS, visionOS, or, if applicable, any combination.
