Add a password to a keychain on Mac
You can use Keychain Access to store passwords and login information for servers, email accounts, and other resources, so you don’t have to remember the information yourself or enter it when you log in.
When you create an account or log in to an app or a server, you’re usually asked if you want to add the password for that account, app, or server to your keychain. However, you can also manually add your password to your keychain by following the instructions below.
In the Keychain Access app on your Mac, select a keychain in any of the Keychains lists other than the System Roots keychain.
Note: You can’t add a password item to the System Roots keychain.
Choose File > New Password Item.
Tip: To add a new keychain item quickly, click the New Keychain Item button in the toolbar. The type of item added depends on the category selected. For example, a password is added when All Items or Passwords is selected.
This option isn’t available for My Certificates, Keys, and Certificates.
Enter the information for Keychain Item Name, Account Name, and Password.
To make sure your password is correct, select Show Password to view it.
Tip: To copy a password in a selected item quickly, choose Edit > Copy Password to Clipboard.
