Hints, Verbosity category, VoiceOver Utility on Mac
Use the Hints pane of the Verbosity category in VoiceOver Utility to get more information about the item in the VoiceOver cursor.
To open VoiceOver Utility, press Command-F5 to turn VoiceOver on, then press VO-Fn-F8.
Note: VO represents the VoiceOver modifier. See Use the VoiceOver modifier.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Speak instructions for using the item in the VoiceOver cursor | Have VoiceOver automatically read instructions, if available, for the item. |
When an item has a help tag | Choose how you want to hear the descriptions (called help tags or tooltips) that are displayed when the pointer rests briefly over an item: Do Nothing, Speak Notification or Speak Help. |
When an item has custom actions | Choose how you want to hear custom actions that are available for the item in the VoiceOver cursor: Do Nothing, Speak Help or Play Sound. |
When an item has more content | Choose how you want to hear that more content is available for the item in the VoiceOver cursor: Do Nothing, Speak Help or Play Sound. If more content is available for an item, press VO-Command-/ to hear the content. |
Speak hints after delay | Set how many seconds VoiceOver waits before speaking hints for an item by dragging the slider towards Short or Long. |
Append phonetic pronunciation to single characters | Always hear characters read phonetically. For example, if VoiceOver is reading text by character, it reads “a alpha n November t tango.” |
