If Time Machine on your Mac recommends a larger backup disk
If you see a message that your backup disk is smaller than the recommended size, you can still continue backing up your Mac. Time Machine displays a separate notification if more storage space is needed.
Ideally, your backup disk should have at least twice the storage capacity of your Mac. For example, if your Mac has 1TB of storage, a 2TB backup drive is recommended.
Your first Time Machine backup is a full backup that includes everything on your Mac. Time Machine then creates smaller incremental backups by finding and saving only new and changed items. If your backup disk runs low on space, Time Machine deletes older backups in order to create newer ones. However, Time Machine never deletes the last remaining backup.
Thanks for your feedback.
