Listen to internet radio in iTunes on PC
You can use iTunes to listen to music streamed over the internet. iTunes can also play many types of audio files available on the internet, including spoken programmes.
Tune into internet stations
In the iTunes app on your PC, choose Music from the pop-up menu at the top left, then click Library.
Select Internet Radio in the sidebar on the left.
If you don’t see Internet Radio, choose Edit (next to Library in the sidebar), select the Internet Radio tick box, then click Done.
To see the available stations, click the triangle next to the type of music you want to listen to.
To tune in, double-click a station.
If you use a dial-up modem to connect to the internet, choose a station with a bit rate of less than 48 kilobits per second (kbps) for best results. To see a station’s bit rate, select the station, then choose Edit > Song Info.
Tip: If you like a station and want to save it to listen to again, drag it from the list of Internet Radio stations to Music Playlists in the sidebar. If you have multiple radio stations you like, you can create a playlist folder for all of them.
Connect to an internet broadcast
If you know the exact URL of an internet broadcast or audio file, iTunes can connect to it directly.
In the iTunes app on your PC, choose File > Open Stream.
Enter the full URL of the broadcast or file you want to listen to.
Important: Be sure to include the http:// or https:// prefix when you enter the URL.
For information on file types iTunes can play, see Choose import settings.
Set iTunes as your default internet radio player (Windows 10)
On your PC, go to Start > Settings, then choose Apps.
In the sidebar, click “Default apps”.
Under Music Player, click the current default app.
Click iTunes.
Even if iTunes isn’t your default audio player, you can play any audio file using iTunes by right-clicking the file and choosing Open with iTunes.
Set iTunes as your default internet radio player (Windows 7, 8 or Vista)
On your PC, go to Start > Default Programmes.
Click “Set your default programs”.
In the list on the left, click iTunes.
Click “Set this program as default”.
Even if iTunes isn’t your default audio player, you can play any audio file using iTunes by right-clicking the file and choosing Open with iTunes.
You can’t record or save a song from an internet broadcast, but you can add your favourite stations to your library or to a playlist so that you can tune in easily.
