Add a transit card to Apple Wallet in Japan
Add a Suica, PASMO, ICOCA, or TOICA transit card to Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch to ride transit and make purchases using Apple Pay.
What you need
To add a Suica, PASMO, ICOCA, or TOICA card to your iPhone or Apple Watch1, you need:
An Apple Account that you used to sign in on your device with two-factor authentication.
An iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus or later with the latest version of iOS supported for your iPhone. Or, an Apple Watch Series 3 or later with the latest version of watchOS supported for your Apple Watch.
An eligible payment card in Apple Wallet.
For Suica transit cards, you need an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus or later. Or, an Apple Watch Series 2 or later that was purchased in Japan.
Add a new transit card to Apple Wallet
You can add a new transit card in Japan on your iPhone or Apple Watch, or transfer your physical card to your device.2 When you add or transfer your TOICA card to the Wallet app, it will appear as an ICOCA card.
When you add your first transit card, Express Mode turns on automatically. Express Mode allows you to pay for transit rides and make purchases with just a tap. Express Mode can only be turned on for one card at a time. If you add more cards, you can change which card you set to Express Mode.
How to add a new transit card on your iPhone or Apple Watch
To add a card:
iPhone: Open the Wallet app and tap the Add button
.Apple Watch: On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap the My Watch tab. Then scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, and tap Add Card.
Tap Transit Card.
Choose the card that you want to add.
Tap Add New Card.
Choose an amount to put on the card and tap Add.
Follow the steps on the screen to confirm your purchase and add your transit card.
How to transfer a physical transit card to your iPhone or Apple Watch
You can transfer your physical transit card, its current balance, and commuter plan to Apple Wallet.3 After the transfer, your physical card won't work. Your deposit will be added to your transit card balance in Apple Wallet.
To add a card:
iPhone: Open the Wallet app and tap the Add button
.Apple Watch: On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap the My Watch tab. Then scroll down, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, and tap Add Card.
Tap Transit Card.
Choose the card that you want to add.
Tap Transfer Existing Card.
Follow the steps on the screen to transfer your physical card. Verify the last four digits of the card number. You only need to enter your date of birth if you're adding a personalized transit card. Use the same date of birth that you entered when you purchased your plastic physical card. Tap Next.
Place your card on a flat surface and rest the top of your iPhone on the card until Card Added appears on the screen. This process could take a few minutes to complete.
Transfer your transit card between devices
You can have a transit card on only one device at a time. But you can move your card between devices.
How to transfer your transit card from your iPhone to your Apple Watch
On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
In the My Watch tab, scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
Tap the Add button next to the card that you want to move to your Apple Watch.
You can also select Add Card to view a list of previous cards from your other devices.
To move the card back to your iPhone, use the Apple Watch app: tap Wallet & Apple Pay, tap your card, then tap Add card to iPhone.
How to transfer your transit card using Setup Assistant
In Setup Assistant on your new iPhone, tap Wallet.
Select the cards that you want to transfer from your previous device.
Tap Continue to confirm that you want to transfer your cards to your new device.4
Your previous device must be nearby and connected to the internet in order to complete the transfer to your new device.
How to transfer your transit card using the Wallet app
On your new iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap the Add button
.Tap Cards Found For You and choose your transit card.
Follow the steps on the screen to add your card to the new iPhone.4
You can't move your transit card during a transit journey.
Your previous device must be nearby and connected to the internet in order to complete the transfer to your new device.
How to remove your transit card
On your iPhone, open the Wallet app.
Tap your transit card.
Tap the More button
, then tap Card Details.Scroll down and tap Remove Card, then tap Remove to confirm.
Apple Pay isn't available for children under 13. Age varies by country or region.
For ICOCA cards, only transit cards issued by JR West are supported. Refer to ICOCA directly for a comprehensive list of eligible cards.
Make sure that you sign in to iCloud on all your devices. On your iOS device, you need to set up Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. On your Apple Watch, you need to set up a passcode. If you remove your passcode or sign out of iCloud, all credit, prepaid, and transit cards are removed from that device. When you remove a transit card from any device, the remaining balance will be stored and available to be transferred to the same or another iPhone or Apple Watch that is signed into iCloud with the same Apple Account.
Once transfer is complete, the previous card will remain visible in the Wallet app with an indication that the card can't be used.
