Add a custom email domain for iCloud Mail on iCloud.com
If you upgrade to iCloud+, you can add a custom email domain name you already own to iCloud and use it with iCloud Mail. For an overview of the feature, see Personalize iCloud Mail with a custom email domain and share with family.
If you’re part of a Family Sharing group, you can share the email domain with members of the group. Anyone in your Family Sharing group can add a custom domain and choose whether or not to share it.
Note: Custom Email Domain isn’t available in all countries or regions.
Before you begin
If you have existing email addresses at your domain that you want to keep using, make a list of them so you can configure them in iCloud. If you don’t have existing email addresses, you can create them after you add the domain to iCloud.
You need to have two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID. If you don’t, you can turn it on at the Apple ID account website.
You need to have a primary iCloud Mail email address set up to use a custom email domain. If you don’t, see Create a primary email address for iCloud Mail.
If you want to share a domain with your family, make sure you have Family Sharing set up. See Use iCloud with your family. Each family member also needs to turn on two-factor authentication and have a primary iCloud Mail email address.
How adding a custom domain works
When you add a custom domain, you go through the following steps:
Step 1. Enter the domain name and choose if you want to share it with your Family Sharing group.
Step 2. If you have existing email addresses for the domain, add them and assign them to members of your Family Sharing group (if applicable).
Step 3. Set up the domain, select your default email address, and (optionally) import email messages from your previous provider.
Step 1: Enter the domain details
On iCloud.com, go to Account Settings, then click Manage in the Custom Email Domain section.
If you’ve already added at least one domain, scroll down, then click the button to add a new domain.
Indicate who will use the domain. Choose one of the following:
Only You: Choose this option if you don’t have Family Sharing set up, or if you’re part of a Family Sharing group but don’t want to share the domain with the group.
You and Your Family: Choose this option if you want to share the domain with members of your Family Sharing group. During setup, you can configure email addresses for each member of your Family Sharing group.
Enter the domain name, then click Continue.
Step 2: Enter existing email addresses
Enter the email addresses you already use with this domain name. (You can create new email addresses after you set up the domain.)
Note: If there aren’t any existing email addresses associated with this domain, click Skip and go to Step 3: Set up the domain.
Locate the person who the email address belongs to.
If you’re sharing the domain with your Family Sharing group, you see all your Family Sharing members listed. If not, you only see yourself.
Add an existing email address in the field below their name.
Note: You can’t add an email address if you or someone else is using it with a different Apple ID. If you want to add that address, the other Apple ID needs to be changed to a different email address. See the Apple Support article Change your Apple ID.
If you want to add an additional email address for any person, click
next to their name. In the field that appears, type the additional address. Each person can have a maximum of three email addresses for a domain.
After you finish adding all existing addresses, click “Add email address(es).”
A verification email is sent to each of the email addresses you added. You can see the verification status of each email address under the address. If necessary, you can click Resend Verification Emails to resend the email to all pending addresses.
Step 3: Set up the domain
Follow the onscreen instructions to finish setting up your domain. Depending on the domain, you may be prompted to sign in to your domain registrar to automatically update your records. Otherwise, you need to manually update your DNS records. For information on how to update your MX, TXT, and CNAME records, see the Apple Support article Set up an existing domain with iCloud Mail.
Choose a default email address to use when you send iCloud mail. You can change this at any time in Mail preferences. See Choose a default email address to send mail from on iCloud.com.
You can import existing email messages from your previous email provider to iCloud Mail (not available for all providers). Click “Import now,” then follow the onscreen instructions to sign in to your previous mail account.
It may take some time to import all your messages. They appear in an iCloud Mail folder with the name of your email address. If you had your mail organized into multiple folders in your previous email account, those folders appear inside the new folder.
You can also import messages later.
Important: Make sure you have enough iCloud storage to import all your messages. See Check your iCloud storage online or on any device.
You can now use your custom domain addresses to send and receive email on iCloud.com and on any Apple device that has Mail turned on in iCloud settings. See Set up iCloud for Mail on all your devices.
