Generate revenue
Publishers can monetize their content by selling ad placements on their Apple News channel(s) and articles. The following is a breakdown of how to generate ad revenue with advertising on Apple News.
Direct Sold (100 percent of revenue): Sell your own ads that run on your Apple News channel(s) and articles and keep 100 percent of revenue generated from them.
Backfill (70 percent of revenue): Allow Apple to sell ads in your content by enabling backfill in Workbench, and keep 70 percent of the revenue.
Pooled (50 percent of revenue): Earn additional revenue from ads that Apple sells outside of your articles. Ads could appear in between articles in the Today feed, or in Apple-curated topic feeds such as Fashion and Technology. Apple will share 50 percent of the revenue from these ads with Apple News Format channels that have signed up to participate. Revenue is allocated among publishers based on the time readers spend within each channel’s articles.
Note that Apple doesn’t apply ad serving fees.
