Change Sharing settings on Mac

On your Mac, use Sharing settings to set options for sharing your computer, files, printers, media, and more.

To change these settings, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Sharing. (You may need to scroll down.)

Note: If your Mac is enrolled in a device management service, some sharing settings may be unavailable.

Option				Description
File Sharing				Allow other users to access shared folders on your Mac, and allow administrators to access all volumes. Click to set file sharing options. See Set up file sharing on Mac.
Media Sharing				Allow other devices on your network to browse and play downloaded music, movies, and TV shows from your Mac. Click to set media sharing options. See Change Media Sharing settings.
Screen Sharing				Allow other users on your network to access your computer screen. Click to set screen sharing options. See Turn Mac screen sharing on or off.
Content Caching				Reduce bandwidth usage and speed up installation on supported devices by storing downloaded software updates, applications, and other content on your Mac. Click to set content caching options. See Change Content Caching settings on Mac.
Bluetooth Sharing				Allow Bluetooth^® file sharing. Click to set Bluetooth sharing options. See Set up Bluetooth sharing.
Printer Sharing				Allow others on your network to use printers connected to your Mac. Click to set printer sharing options. See Share your printer.
Internet Sharing				Allow other devices to share your connection to the internet. Click to set internet sharing options. See Share the internet connection on Mac with other network users.
Remote Management				Allow others to access your Mac using Apple Remote Desktop. Click to set remote management options. See Allow Apple Remote Desktop to access your Mac.
Remote Login				Allow remote login access to your Mac. Click to set remote login options. See Allow a remote computer to access your Mac.
Remote Application Scripting				Allow Apple events sent from other computers to control applications on this Mac. Click to set remote application scripting options. See Allow remote application scripting.
Local hostname				The local network name of your Mac. Click Edit to change your computer’s local hostname or use a dynamic global hostname. See Change your computer’s name or local hostname.
