Change Classroom settings on Mac

Use Classroom settings to choose options for joining classes and to choose whether to let teachers control your Mac, lock your Mac, view your screen, and share your screen using AirPlay. The settings apply to all your classes. Classroom settings only appear when you’re using a Mac managed by a school or institution.

To change these settings on your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Classroom in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

Note: If your classes were installed by a mobile device management (MDM) system, you won’t be able to add or remove classes, or change your information.

Option				Description
Invites				Add new classes to your class list. Click the class in the list below Invites, click Accept, enter the code your teacher gave you, then click Add Class. When you add a class, you can select options for how teachers access and control your Mac—for example, whether they can lock your Mac or view your screen. To view or change the teacher’s access, click Options.
Classes				View the list of classes you’ve added and the classes you’ve been invited to add. Classes you’ve added already are listed under Classes. Classes you’ve been invited to add are listed under Invites.
Remove Class				Remove a class from your class list. Click the class in the list below Classes, click Remove Class, then click Remove. If you remove a class, you must add it again before you can continue participating in it. If you remove all your classes, the Classroom settings are removed from your Mac and Classroom is no longer available in System Settings.
My Information				Choose your name and picture used for class. Your teacher sees this name and picture on their Mac or iPad. Use the information from your card in the Contacts app: Turn on Use Name & Photo from My Card. To learn how to change the information on your card, see Set up your My Card in Contacts. Enter different information: Turn off Use Name & Photo from My Card, enter your first and last name in the fields next to the picture, then click the picture to choose a picture. After you click the picture, you can: Adjust the current picture: Use the slider to adjust the picture in the frame, then click Save. Use a picture included with macOS: Click Memoji, Emoji, Monogram, or Suggestions; select a picture or color; then click Save. Take your picture using your Mac: Click Camera; when you’re ready, click Take Photo, use the slider to adjust the picture in the frame, then click Save. Use a picture from the Photos app: Click a category below photos, then select a picture. Use the slider to adjust the picture in the frame, then click Save. Instead of clicking the picture, you can drag an image file from the Finder onto the picture.
Teacher				Click the class name to view the name and picture of the teacher.
Options				Choose settings for joining classes and allowing teachers to access your Mac. Join nearby classes: Join a class automatically when the teacher starts the class, or manually when the teacher requests control of your Mac. After you join a class, the teacher can access and control your Mac during the class. For example, the teacher can open apps, websites, and documents on your Mac. Lock Mac: Specify whether to allow teachers to lock your Mac. When a teacher locks your Mac, you can’t use it until the teacher unlocks it. AirPlay and View Screen: Choose whether to allow teachers to view your screen and use AirPlay to stream content from your Mac to an Apple TV. When the teacher is viewing or displaying your screen, the AirPlay icon appears on the teacher’s name or picture, and the AirPlay icon in the menu bar changes color. After setting options, click Done.
